Rafting operations in the Tamor (Koshi) River, flowing along the border of Panchthar and Terhathum districts, have successfully completed 5 years. The rafting service has been operated by Stun Rafting Travel and Tour Company, aiming to attract both domestic and international tourists.
Initially, the rafting service saw great success, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, the operations faced challenges in regaining their previous momentum. However, efforts are now underway to revive and expand the business. This area has the potential to become an attractive destination for rafting enthusiasts from surrounding districts such as Panchthar, Terhathum, Dhankuta, Dharan, Jhapa, and Ilam.
Majhitar: The Main Rafting Destination
Located about 11 kilometers from the main market of Panchthar, Fidim, Majhitar serves as the key destination for rafting activities. Tourists can enjoy the thrilling rafting experience in this area. From a tourism perspective, the region holds immense potential, and with proper promotion, it can attract a significant number of both domestic and international tourists.
Facilities and Transport Accessibility
Located approximately 140 meters from the eastern border of Panchthar, at Chiva Bhanjyang, this region is well-connected by the Mid-Hill Highway. With good transport facilities already in place and the potential opening of the Sikkim border in the future, this area can also attract tourists from Sikkim.
In recent times, several well-equipped hotels, including Tamor Resort, have been set up to cater to the needs of tourists visiting for rafting. These hotels offer excellent lodging and dining facilities for rafting enthusiasts.
